Open Bachelor’s or Master’s Thesis Opportunity
We are looking for motivated students (Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Physics) to join our team for a Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis within the HYP*MOL Collaborative Research Center, which focuses on hyperpolarization in molecular systems.
Our project investigates a flavin-binding protein that forms a light-induced spin-correlated radical pair (SCRP). We aim to uncover how this radical pair is generated and how spin polarization is transferred, with the long-term goal of controlling and optimizing these processes to create a novel protein-based spin tag.
Your thesis will combine molecular biology and biophysical spectroscopy, offering the chance to work at the intersection of biochemistry and spin physics.
Typical tasks include:
- Cloning and expression of the flavin-binding protein in E. coli
- Protein purification and biophysical characterization
- Performing light-induced EPR (electron paramagnetic resonance) experiments
- Data analysis and interpretation of spin dynamics and polarization effects
You will gain hands-on experience in both wet-lab techniques and advanced spectroscopic and analysis methods, contributing to an interdisciplinary research field that bridges molecular biology, physics, and chemistry.
If you’re curious, motivated, and excited about exploring how light can drive spin phenomena in proteins, please email us a short CV and a list of completed courses/modules.
We look forward to your application!
